Said Benrahma has completed a permanent transfer from West Ham to Lyon for an undisclosed fee.

The Algeria winger spent the second half of last season on loan at the French club, scoring three times in 12 Ligue 1 appearances.

Benrahma joined West Ham from Brentford in October 2020 and registered 24 goals in 155 games for the club.

The 28-year-old was part of the Hammers side which won the 2023 Europa Conference League, scoring a penalty in the 2-1 final win over Fiorentina in Prague.

‘Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Said for his contribution and wish him the best for the future,’ read a club statement.

Benrahma spent the second half of the season with Lyon despite a botched January deal

The forward’s deal to join Lyon during the winter window dramatically collapsed on deadline day – with West Ham accused of ‘incomprehensible behaviour’.

Benrahma had completed his medical in France but West Ham were accused of failing to file the paperwork, Lyon raging they were shown a ‘deep lack of respect’.

Mail Sport reported that West Ham were unhappy with the reaction, feeling they had simply run out of time after negotiations proved difficult during the day.

FIFA were dragged in to fix the situation and granted approval, allowing Benrahma to belatedly put pen to paper on a loan deal for the remainder of the campaign.

The governing body had initially launched an investigation into the botched switch.
