LaLiga President Javier Tebas has given Barcelona a serious warning ahead of the start of next season.
The Nou Camp side were in a precarious financial position ahead of the start of the current campaign and Tebas has stated that the club are in the same boat for the 2023-24 season.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Tebas said that more punishments could be dished out to Barcelona if they don’t decrease their wage bill.

Discussing whether an early exit in the Champions League would impact their situation, Tebas said: ‘If they go out of the Champions League, they will have less income but they will not have to pay bonuses. That will not change much.’
The LaLiga President then continued to outline the problems: ‘The levers have worked for them this season but not for the next one.
‘They have to reduce salary mass, they cannot continue with more than 500 million euros. Because if not, next season we will find the 1/4 rule for them again.’
Barcelona’s wage bill is currently €656 million meaning that they are over the €500 million threshold by a long way.
The club will therefore need to shift some big earners from their books before the start of next season.

Barcelona signed high-profile players Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha in the summer
It has been rumoured that the Catalan club are trying to force some club legends to leave as soon as possible to help repair their finances.
Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto are all set to leave the club following the culmination of the current season.
Both Busquets and Roberto are out of contract in 2023, with Pique’s and Alba’s contracts ending the following year.
These exits would represent a changing of the guard at the Nou Camp and shows the severity of their financial problems.
