Melbourne United shooting guard Chris Goulding withdraws allegation that an opponent ‘shoved a finger up my a***’ during heated altercation as NBL star admits remark was made ‘in the heat of the moment’ during defeat by Cairns Taipans
An NBL star has retracted an explosive allegation made against an unnamed opponent that ‘he shoved a finger up my a***’ during a game on Thursday night.
Melbourne United’s shooting guard, Chris Goulding, was enraged as he approached senior match referee Vaughan Mayberry during his side’s 77-81 loss to Cairns Taipans.
Goulding could be heard telling the official ‘he shoved a finger up my a***’ in reference to an unidentified oppossition player.

However, in a statement released on Friday night, Melbourne United confirmed that Goulding has withdrawn the allegation.
The NBL club said it was aware of an alleged incident that occured during the game against the Taipans relating to comments made by their shooting guard.
Goulding has also clarified that he made the comments ‘in the heart of the moment’ and said he was ‘frustrated’.

‘The comments I made during the game last night were in the heat of the moment and just reactionary, ‘ said Goulding in the statement.
‘I had just been given a technical (foul), so I was obviously frustrated and I apologise.’
‘We have a big game this weekend against the Kings, and winning that is the only thing I’m focused on.’
Despite the commentators speaking during the exchange, viewers on ESPN could clearly hear the remark made by Goulding. There was no replay of the incident as the broadcast was showing an alley-oop pass to Taipans gun Keanu Pinder at the time.
