Man United fans fear Louis van Gaal is ‘trying to sabotage us AGAIN’ after €112m De Jong valuation

Man United fans fear former boss Louis van Gaal is ‘attempting to sabotage us AGAIN’, as the Holland coach insists top target Frenkie de Jong IS worth Barcelona’s €112m valuation

  • Louis van Gaal feels Frenkie de Jong is worth no less than €112 million (£95.9m)
  • Manchester United are keen on a £70million summer move for the midfielder
  • The ex-Red Devils boss also urged target Jurrien Timber to avoid Old Trafford
  • Fans are growing very frustrated by his clear attempts to thwart their business
  • One fan said Van Gaal will ‘not rest from sabotaging’ United after his ‘bitter’ exit

Manchester United fans were left reeling as ex-Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal endorsed Barcelona’s €112million valuation of summer transfer Frenkie de Jong.

The Holland head coach made the assertion after his side’s 2-1 Nations League victory against Wales, which saw De Jong step off the bench as a substitute.

In a dramatic finish, Rhys Norrington-Davies equalised for Wales during added time just before Wout Weghorst fired home Holland’s game-winning second goal in the 94th minute.

During his post-match interview, Van Gaal lauded De Jong for his efforts after coming on and claimed Barcelona should hold out for a huge fee this summer.

‘Frenkie de Jong does bring an extra quality, of course,’ he said. ‘That is why he is also worth €112million.’

Due to financial problems at the club, Barcelona were initially expected to part with De Jong for a fee in the region £70m but have since reconsidered their stance.

Van Gaal also urged Ajax defender Jurrien Timber to steer clear of a move to Old Trafford last week.

According to several Red Devils fans, the 70-year-old is attempting to sabotage the club following his acrimonious exit in May 2016.

He was sacked by Old Trafford chiefs at the end of the 2015-16 season, having missed out on Champions League qualification with a fifth-place finish.

Although Manchester United praised Van Gaal’s ‘great professionalism and dignity’ upon his departure, the former manager released a statement to say he was ‘very disappointed’ by the decision.

De Jong, 25, sits at the top of the Red Devils’ summer wish list, with new boss Ten Hag keen to strengthen the spine of his team in midfield.

The Dutch star played under Ten Hag at Ajax before moving to Barcelona in 2019 for €60m plus add-ons.

Manchester United sent scouts to watch Danish international Christian Eriksen and Austria midfielder Konrad Laimer during their Nations League clash on Monday and will reportedly look to bring the pair to Old Trafford, should their pursuit of De Jong fall through.
