Spain will be sweating over the fitness of Jennifer Hermoso ahead of this summer’s European Championship after the 32-year-old had to leave training due to an injury.Â
The forward parted ways with the Spanish national team after being diagnosed with a grade two sprain of the lateral ligament in her right knee.
Hermoso had been selected for Spain’s friendlies ahead of the tournament and was due to take part in the final phase of preparation for Euro 2022 but will now sit out. Â

A statement released by the official account of the Spanish Women’s Football Team said that their manager, Jorge Vilda, will announce who will be replacing the Barcelona striker in the ‘next few hours’.
Hermoso’s absence will come as a major blow to Spain – who are favourites to win the tournament that is due to take place in England.Â
Spain will face Denmark, Germany, and Finland in the group, while the likes of England will play Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland.Â

Spain’s first game will against Finland – who they have not lost against in any of their last six matches against each other.
Their second group game will be against Germany at the Brentford Community Stadium in London.Â
While their third match will be against Denmark – who will be making their return to international competition after failing to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.Â
Spain are touted as the favourites to win the tournament even though they did not progress beyond the quarter-finals in either 2013 or 2017.
