Cardiff have emerged as shock contenders to sign Gareth Bale this summer after his agent revealed that a return to this country in the summer was likely.
The 32-year-old is set to leave Real Madrid after nine years and 15 trophies, including four Champions Leagues, though his future will hinge on whether Wales qualify for the World Cup.
Wales will meet either Scotland or Ukraine on June 5 for a place in the finals. If they prevail, Bale is expected to join a new club ahead of the Qatar World Cup in November, though his future is less certain if they miss out.

He could make a stunning return to the city of his birth, with Championship Cardiff among the interested clubs.
His agent Jonathan Barnett told Portuguese newspaper Record: ‘He leaves Real Madrid, but it all depends on whether Wales qualify, then we will make a decision. Is it more likely to return to England? I think so, but we’ll have to wait and see if Wales qualify for the World Cup.’
