Christian Eriksen ‘training with third-tier Swiss sode Chiasso’ after leaving Inter Milan

Christian Eriksen is reportedly training with FC Chiasso – who play in the third division of Swiss football – as he continues to look for a new team after being forced to leave Inter Milan.

Eriksen is intent on continuing his football career despite suffering a horrifying cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 while playing for Denmark in their opening game against Finland. After making a recovery and spending time in hospital, doctors inserted fitted him with a heart defibrilator, which spelled the end of his time in Serie A. 

Athletes are forbidden from competing with the heart-starting device present in their bodies under Italian law, meaning Eriksen was left with no choice but to scrap his contract with the reigning Italian champions.

Now Chiasso are providing him a place to keep fit as he looks for his next club, according to Swiss outlet Le Matin.

The 29-year-old will use the facilities at the Swiss Promotion League side to ‘keep himself in shape before bouncing back’ with a club at a higher level. 

His former clubs Tottenham and Ajax are just some of the clubs who have been linked with possibly giving Eriksen a route back into the game as he looks to defy the odds and return to professional sport.

Eriksen was previously reported to be training at the complex of his former Danish side Odense, using their Adalen training ground alongside a personal fitness coach to get his fitness back up to scratch. 

‘We are really happy that Christian Eriksen is keeping in shape right now on our courts,’ Odense’s sports director, Michael Hemmingsen, told Danish site BT.

‘We have kept in touch with Christian since he left Odense, and therefore we are happy that he asked us if he could retrain in Adalen.’ 

His agent Martin Schoots told Sportsmail earlier this month that Eriksen had ‘dreams’ of playing again and was focused on training.

‘Things look good. And he is feeling good. All physical results are positive. Christian has his dreams. 

‘Christian is doing really well. He has been training himself for months and things are going very well.

‘It was clear that we would work towards this solution for a long time. Italy is simply the only country where as a rule you can’t play with an ICD.

‘So its a pity especially since Chris is so immensely loved by the fans. But on the other hand it’s also positive because Chris now can look at the future with another perspective.’ 

Eriksen still dreams of resuming his football career after leaving Inter, his agent has revealed

It comes after Eriksen’s former team-mates reflected on the terrifying incident more than six months after the moment shocked the world. 

Last month Denmark captain Simon Kjaer – who was hailed as one of the heroes of the tournment after being one of the first players to run to Eriksen’s aid, performing emergency first aid before the doctors arrived on the scene.

At last month’s Ballon D’or, he said he will never forget the moment but said it was time for him to move on. 

‘It’s something that remains in my heart, but, slowly, I need to move on, although I respect all the questions about it. It’s something that I will never forget,’ Kjaer said, as per Football Italia.

‘It’s something very personal, luckily it ended well, otherwise I wouldn’t be here now.

‘The most important thing is that he feels well. The focus has always been on the pitch. Now I will try to move on.’ 

Eriksen’s team-mates have been reflecting on the terrifying moment they feared he might die after collapsing to the turf against Finland 

And forward Yussuf Poulsen detailed the moment Denmark players surrounded Eriksen and feared they may be about to watch him die.

‘When we stood around him at that time, we all feared that we might be watching him die,’ he told Sky Sport in Germany. ‘I still remember how each of us whispered or thought: “Please [make] it!”

‘Thank God he [made] it, so we can all talk about it more or less normally, because it’s basically a good story. Good because most people would have died in Christian’s situation,’ he added. 

‘He was lucky that it happened during the game and everything was nearby to bring him back immediately. If it had happened to him in the living room, he would not be there now.’
