Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has been ruled out of action with a shoulder injury that he sustained before the end of the transfer window.
The 28-year-old – who has fallen down the pecking order under manager Jurgen Klopp – has entered into the final year of his contract at the club and could depart for free next summer.
However, Karius is said to be focused on his rehab as he hopes to return to training after the international break. Following his return to full fitness, Karius will begin discussions over his future as he looks to end his Liverpool nightmare.

Speaking to BILD about the state of his injury, Karius said: ‘I’ve been out for about six weeks and I’ll try to rejoin training after the international break and get back in top shape.
He went on to add: ‘We’ll see what will happen in the winter. My goal is to be under the bar every week. And we’ll see where that is.
‘There were a few clubs in the picture [in the summer], but that didn’t get off the ground for various reasons.’
Karius has not made a competitive appearance for Liverpool since 2018 – following that disastrous Champions League performance against Real Madrid.

Karius had a nightmare game against Real three years ago as he gifted Karim Benzema an opening goal in the Champions League final.
He also made a meal of an ambitious long-range strike from Gareth Bale to put the game beyond point.
Karius broke down in tears after the match and apologised to the Liverpool fans who had travelled to Kiev.
Karius was quickly replaced by Alisson – who went on to help Liverpool win the 2019-2020 Premier League title, FIFA Club World Cup and the European Cup.
As a result, Karius joined Union Berlin on loan. He was then reportedly linked with a move to Basle but a deal never materialised.

Speaking to AD via Sport Witness, Achterberg said: ‘You hope that your goalkeepers make as few mistakes as possible.
‘Karius making a mistake in the final against Real Madrid? You win together, and you lose together. It can make or break a career, but I can’t say anything negative about him.
‘No, not even in my book. Like I said, it’s not that kind of book. People should buy other books for that.
‘In my book, Klopp talks about how we work together. And how it is to work every day at perhaps the biggest club on earth.’
